What Is In The Pond?

Isaac went to the pond and came back with something to show us. He called us outside and dipped his hand in the bucket, he pulled out a handful of frog eggs! Talk about science in the backyard!
All the children thought the frog eggs were neat and now know first hand what they look like. The boys love finding frogs and now they know what those frogs look like in the egg stage.

Insects

Recently we did an Insect Unit study by Amanda Bennett. I included the little ones as much as I could and we had lots of fun! I was so amazed at how God would place insects in our path as we were learning. It was great because then we had some hands on learning.
Butterflies that were in the drive way. There was probably 15 of these just right behind the van.
The grasshopper. When we were learning about the grasshopper we measured how far the kids could jump. So fun!
Potato bug beetle. All the kids learned lots about insects.

We enjoyed this week long unit study. Didn't cover all of it so we can do it again later and finish it up. If you ever want a break from the regular school routine, I highly recommend these unit studies by Amanda Bennett. You can click on the links in this post or on the top right hand side of our blog is a place that will take you to the web site also. She even has weekly specials and you can get really good prices on the Unit Studies!!

Nature Walk

Sometimes our nature walk has come to us. We found the following and never left our yard!
A butterfly landed on the back door.
An egg Isaac found in the woods at the edge of our back yard.
We have TONS of rabbits in our yard. The kids love watching them hop and play!
This rabbit found him a dirt spot that he was having so much fun rolling in. I have a rabbit story about Isaac catching a baby rabbit that I can't wait to share.
We saw this bird as we were in the back yard taking a picture of the rabbits. The bird was in the vaccant lot next to our house. Isn't it beautiful!
My sweet "big" boy, Isaac, was out watering my flowers and found this little guy. We all got to go out and take a look at him. :)

I never know what we will find next. Enjoying every creature and/or creation God has placed in our path!!

Nature Walk

There is an old road bed beside our house and the little boys have been begging to walk it. So I decide that that would be one of our nature walk days. It was so nice but I think it was longer than the little boys thought it would be. :) The big kids took their camera and took pictures that I hope we will get around to blogging about soon.

Here are a few pictures from our latest nature walk.
Some kind of moth on the side of the house.
A bird pirched on a tree branch. I think birds are so pretty to look at and watch!
 Another view of the bird!
These our the two guides on our nature walks! Very good guides, they just get a little too ahead of us at times! :)

Nature Walk

Somewhere recently I saw on a families blog that the mother would take her kids on nature walks as part of their school. I thought this would be something my kids would love. Shortly after reading this the kids were outside and made a few nature discoveries which confirmed that nature walks needed to be incorporated in our school. Thought I would share some of the findings from our first nature walks.
These two are always giving loving to each other.A worm that the little boys found while digging in the dirt.Timothy is not afraid to climb! He can climb just like the rest of them. :)Sarah has her own "reading" tree that she likes to climb in.Isaac found this baby tree. Elijah was prepared to dig if we had to. He is the man for the job! :)These two have loved taking nature walks!Thankful that no one got in this! The cows that Isaac has "adopted". :)Flowers in the field next to our house. The vine that has grown around the bobwire fence.
